An important aspect is the realization of the lower structure and the installation of the surface itself. In order for the artificial turf field of the 2nd and 3rd generation to meet even the most stringent standards, it is crucial to ensure a suitable base. The substrate must meet three basic requirements:
- It must have the ability to drain water.
- It must be solid.
- It must be straight.
In practice, this means that the most common type of substrate is crushed stone, which is used in prescribed thicknesses and fractions according to the ground plan to determine the required thickness of the given fractions. If necessary, drainage is installed.
The composition of the surface includes:
- 2nd or 3rd generation artificial turf.
- Fill with green EPDM granules (only for 3G football), alternatively with black SBR granules (only for 3G).
- Silica sand of the 2nd and 3rd generation.
- A flexible mat (it is not necessary, but it improves the technical parameters for sports).
- Layers of pebbles.
- Drainage (if necessary).
